For passionate Republican voters, the news of Elon Musk accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci of funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab is a bombshell. In fact, it’s the type of story that we at Fox News have been covering since day one of the pandemic.
According to Musk, Fauci funded gain-of-function research “via a pass-through organization (EcoHealth)” on Twitter Sunday. This accusation comes just hours after the Wall Street Journal released a report revealing that the U.S. Energy Department is now considering it likely that COVID originated from a Wuhan, China lab leak.
For months, many public health officials like Fauci have disregarded the lab leak theory, but with new evidence surfacing, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we need to hold those responsible for funding the research that may have started the pandemic accountable.
What’s most concerning is that Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance is a U.S. National Institutes of Health grantee that “passed taxpayer funds to the Wuhan lab to conduct gain of function research on bat coronaviruses.”
This is the type of information that House Republicans have been requesting from Fauci and Daszak for months. On Feb. 13, House Republicans formally requested Fauci and Daszak come before Congress for an interview.
It’s clear that throughout the 117th Congress, Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) have been fighting to get to the bottom of this issue.
They’ve sent numerous letters to the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
They’ve also requested information from several virologists who colluded with Dr. Fauci during the early days of the pandemic to downplay the lab leak theory.
But now, with the Energy Department’s update and Musk’s accusation, it’s becoming harder and harder to ignore the possibility that COVID-19 was indeed a result of gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.
Passionate Republican voters, we must continue to demand answers and hold those responsible accountable. We cannot let this issue be swept under the rug any longer. We need transparency and honesty from our public health officials, especially those in positions of power like Dr. Fauci.
