Passionate Republican voters, it’s time to pay attention to what’s happening in Washington D.C. right now. Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Federal Aviation Administration, Phil Washington, is facing serious allegations of corruption and retaliation, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is calling for a new Senate investigation into his nomination.
Washington’s first nomination was stalled last summer due to issues surrounding his time as CEO of LA Metro, and those issues have only gotten worse.
He was involved in not one, but two federal criminal investigations at the time of his nomination for Biden’s transportation transition team.
One of those investigations involved allegations that LA Metro knowingly distributed counterfeit N95 masks early in the pandemic to transit workers, leading to at least one death.
The other involved a no-bid contract for a sexual harassment hotline given to a friend of then-LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, which cost the county $8,000 per call.
Since then, more information has come to light in the Kuehl investigation, and search warrants were executed in September at the homes of Kuehl, her friend, the nonprofit Peace Over Violence, and LA Metro offices. Washington retaliated against Jennifer Loew, the whistleblower whose information led to the investigation and search warrants.
The Senate must do additional investigation into Washington’s nomination, given the allegations of corruption and retaliation against whistleblowers.
As passionate Republican voters, it’s crucial that we hold those in power accountable for their actions. We cannot afford to have someone with a history of corrupt behavior leading such an important agency as the FAA.
Sen. Cruz is leading the charge in calling for a new investigation into Washington’s nomination, and we should support him in his efforts. The allegations against Washington are serious, and we need to ensure that the Senate fully investigates them before making a decision on his nomination.
It’s time to take a stand and demand transparency and accountability from those in power. As passionate Republican voters, we have a duty to hold our elected officials accountable and ensure that our government is working for the people, not against them. Let’s support Sen. Cruz in his efforts to investigate Phil Washington’s nomination and make our voices heard.
