Democratic Senator Joe Manchin, a beacon of sanity in his party, made a defiant stand against President Biden’s overreaching Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) nominees. Manchin is gearing up to oppose the nominees for their anticipated regulation targeting power plant emissions.
This West Virginia Democrat, who chairs the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, called out the Biden administration for its blind determination to shut down fossil fuel-fired power plants with no thought to the impact on our national power grid.
Manchin pointed out that neither the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law nor the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which he supported, gave the EPA any new authority to control power plant emissions.
“I fear that this Administration’s commitment to their extreme ideology overshadows their responsibility to ensure long-lasting energy and economic security,” Manchin warned.
The EPA, in a maneuver set to be revealed soon, allegedly plans to force coal- and natural gas-fired power plants to drastically cut or capture their carbon dioxide emissions by 2040.
Even though the Supreme Court declared an Obama-era emissions rule as unconstitutional, the Biden administration still pushes its radical climate agenda with a misplaced belief in the IRA’s broad allowance for greenhouse gas regulation.
This would affect the 3,393 fossil fuel-fired power plants across our great nation, which generate over 60% of our electricity. Renewable wind and solar projects contribute a meager 14% in comparison.
The Biden administration’s extreme environmental policy could lead to an energy crisis and higher costs for the American people.
Manchin, standing as a lone voice of reason in his party, has made his opposition clear. We hope his stand will shed light on the reckless actions of the Biden administration and its dangerous pursuit of radical environmental policies at the expense of American energy security and economic stability.
