While the administration claims this information would decipher how many Black Americans descended from enslaved Americans, it could also be seen as another attempt to push reparations for slavery.
The Wall Street Journal article claims that the Black community has issued calls for a more detailed census to differentiate Black Americans from each other.
However, this could be unnecessary as one in five Black people in the US is an immigrant or their children, according to a nonpartisan analysis. Instead of creating more divisions among our people, we should be working towards unity and progress.
Furthermore, the San Francisco reparations panel recently called for every black slave descendant to receive $5 million in reparations, sparking controversy and debate.
The left’s obsession with reparations and virtue signaling only serves to deepen the divides among our people. Let’s reject this potential census change and focus on what unites us as Americans.
