Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is taking the Biden administration to court over the alleged use of taxpayer dollars to purchase crack pipes for drug addicts.
In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, Moody demanded the Justice Department and Department of Health and Human Services to release the documents related to federal grant funds used for the promotion of drug use through safe smoking kits, which reportedly included crack pipes and other drug-related paraphernalia.
The lawsuit comes after the Biden administration failed to respond to multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for over a year.
Moody is determined to ensure that the government is transparent in its use of taxpayers’ money. She claims that the agencies’ refusal to provide the requested documentation is unacceptable and is taking legal action to get the answers that the American people deserve.
The Biden administration announced a $30 million grant program in February 2022 that would reimburse local governments and organizations that provide safe “smoking kits” to addicts. The grant document references Biden’s executive order “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.”
The Washington Free Beacon reported that those kits would allow users to smoke any illicit substance, including crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.
Although the White House and HHS denied that crack pipes would be distributed using taxpayer money, several harm-reduction organizations in five East Coast cities reportedly included crack pipes in their so-called safe smoking kits.
Moody’s lawsuit aims to hold the Biden administration accountable for its actions and ensure transparency in its policies. The American people deserve to know if their tax dollars are being used to promote drug use and provide drug paraphernalia to addicts.
