President Biden’s patience with Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly wearing thin.
According to a recent report from Reuters, high-ranking officials in the Biden administration have revealed that the president is frustrated with Harris for not rising to the occasion as his second-in-command.
One former Biden official told Reuters that if the president didn’t think Harris was capable, he wouldn’t have picked her. But, the official added, it’s a question of consistently rising to the occasion.
A second former official highlighted a point of tension between Biden and Harris, saying that the president doesn’t see her as someone who takes anything off of his plate.
The official also noted that Harris has been slow to join important political fights, like the ongoing border crisis, out of fear of messing up.
Biden put Harris in charge of border issues in 2021, but she has notably neglected to visit the border, going only after she took heavy flak in the press and from interest groups.
The National Border Patrol Council has criticized Harris for failing to do her job and protect the border, saying that she should be fired and replaced if she can’t reduce illegal immigration.
This is not Harris’ first conflict with Democratic Party heavyweights. She reportedly stopped receiving calls from Sen. Elizabeth Warren after the Massachusetts Democrat refused to endorse her for re-election in 2024.
As the Biden administration struggles with border issues, it’s clear that Harris is not stepping up to the plate.
The president needs someone who is willing to take on tough challenges and rise to the occasion. The question now is whether Harris is up to the task.
