Pro-Bolsonaro Attack on Brazil’s Capitol Tests Americans’ Faith in Democracy

As Republicans watch the chaos in Brazil with horror, many of them are pointing to the hypocrisy of Democrats. They note that while Democrats were quick to condemn the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021 by supporters of former President Donald Trump, they are silent on the pro-Bolsonaro attack on Brazil’s Capitol and presidential palace.

The Democrats’ double standard has only been exacerbated by their calls for Former President Jair Bolsonaro to be extradited out of Florida, where he is currently residing.

Republicans argue that if Democrats are truly concerned about the attack on Brazilian democracy, they should be equally concerned with the attack on the U.S. Capitol and should focus on the perpetrators of that attack first.

Meanwhile, many Republicans are also calling out the Democrats for their attempts to use the violence in Brazil to push their own agenda. They allege that Democrats are trying to use the incident to advance their own agenda of increasing restrictions on voting and limiting the rights of Republicans in the United States.

By painting the Republican party as a threat to democracy, Democrats hope to gain an advantage in the upcoming 2022 midterms. But Republicans are determined to prove that they are a party of law and order and will continue to fight for the rights of all Americans.
