The new Republican-led Congress is wasting no time in fulfilling their promise to hold the Biden administration accountable. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has launched an investigation into the president’s mishandling of classified records and the Justice Department’s investigation into the matter.
According to Fox News Digital, The investigation comes after a second stash of classified documents was found inside the garage of Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home, leading Attorney General Merrick Garland to escalate the Justice Department’s ongoing review to a formal special counsel probe.
Jordan is questioning not only Biden’s “mishandling” and “unauthorized possession” of classified documents, but also the “circumstances” of the appointment of former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel.
He is also questioning the alleged concealment of the information by the DOJ, especially as the White House has admitted that the first batch of classified records were found at the Penn Biden Center in November 2022 – before the midterm elections – and not publicly disclosed until January.
This investigation is long overdue, as it is clear that there is a double standard in the government. Jordan pointed to the “publicly available evidence of President Trump’s voluntary cooperation,” and said Garland “personally approved the decision to seek a warrant for excessive and unprecedented access to his private residence.” At the time, Biden slammed Trump for being “irresponsible” for keeping classified documents.
But this investigation is not just about holding the Biden administration accountable, it’s about protecting the American people from a weaponized federal government. Jordan has successfully established a new Judiciary subcommittee – the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government – which he will chair.
This subcommittee is expected to investigate not only how the executive branch has gathered information on American citizens, but also how it has worked with other bodies – including private sector companies – to “facilitate action against American citizens.”
This investigation is just the beginning. The Republican-led Congress will continue to hold the Biden administration accountable and ensure that the American people are protected from a weaponized federal government. It’s time for the Democrats to stop playing politics and start working for the American people.
