When former UN ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old, it was no surprise that Fox News was quick to cover the story.
Haley’s announcement was a subtle jab at both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, who are both over 75 years old. While Fox News was quick to point out Vice President Kamala Harris’s incomprehensible response to the question of whether she thought requiring cognitive tests for elderly politicians was a good idea, it’s important to focus on the real issue at hand.
Biden’s cognition is a real issue. Democrats spent four years banging on about Trump’s supposed cognitive decline and the need to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. Yet, they seem to be turning a blind eye to the same issue with their own president.
It’s not hard to find evidence of Biden’s cognitive decline. His word salad responses to simple questions and his inability to stay on track during speeches are concerning. It’s a real problem that needs to be addressed.
As passionate Republican voters, it’s important to stay focused on the issues that matter. Mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over 75 years old is a good start, but it’s not enough. We need to hold all politicians accountable for their cognitive abilities, regardless of their age.
