President Joe Biden has once again proven himself to be a liar by making racially charged comments during his speech in Selma, Alabama on Sunday.
Biden has repeatedly lied about his civil rights legacy and continues to push debunked talking points that suggest election integrity laws threaten voting rights.
It is important to remember that there are no laws in the United States that prevent a U.S. citizen from voting on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or religion.
Biden’s speech was a disgraceful attempt to incite racial division in the United States. On the 58th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday,” Biden acted as if the U.S. had made no progress since the 1960s, when Jim Crow laws racially discriminated against black Americans with voter suppression measures like literacy tests and poll taxes.
Biden’s speech was filled with lies, including his claim that the right to vote is “under assault.” In reality, non-partisan research has shown that election integrity laws have no measurable impact on voter registration or turnout.
Voter ID laws don’t reduce voter turnout, including among African-Americans and Hispanics, according to a landmark report by The Heritage Foundation in 2007.
The truth is that the assault on America’s elections comes from those who are attempting to erode voting integrity measures, such as restrictions on mass absentee ballots and litigation against voter ID laws. Biden’s claims about the need for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act are nothing more than political posturing.
Biden’s speech in Selma was a disgraceful attempt to divide Americans along racial lines. It is time for the American people to see through his lies and recognize his true agenda.
