New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is under scrutiny once again for alleged campaign finance violations and for accepting “impermissible gifts” in connection with her attendance at the Met Gala in 2021.
The Federal Election Commission conducted a two-year investigation and found that two political action committees associated with AOC’s campaign failed to properly disclose the purpose of certain disbursements. However, despite the findings, the FEC voted 4-2 to dismiss a complaint against her.
Additionally, the House Office of Congressional Ethics found “substantial reason to believe” that Ocasio-Cortez may have violated federal law when she accepted “impermissible gifts” at the Met Gala. The bipartisan Board of the Office of Congressional Ethics has recommended further review of the allegations.
These allegations are serious and must be thoroughly investigated. As citizens, we deserve transparency and fairness in our political system. It is important that our elected officials are held accountable for their actions and that appropriate action is taken if any wrongdoing is found.
