CNN panelists and former Democratic state senator Nina Turner and political commentator David Urban have both agreed that President Biden should be challenged in the Democratic primary for the 2024 presidential election.
This news comes as President Biden has still not officially announced his re-election bid. While the White House has said numerous times that it is his “intention to run,” there are growing signs that he could face a primary challenge in this key nominating state.
Even some Democratic commentators are expressing doubts about Biden’s ability to win the presidency again. CNN political commentator Kristen Soltis Anderson said that “there are moments that do leave doubts in the minds of voters who are watching.”
Turner echoed Anderson’s sentiment, stating that Democrats “have to be a little nervous” about Biden. She added that “voters deserve to have choice” and that “there’s no need to be nervous, I mean, people should just jump in. Let’s jump in.”
Former Biden speechwriter Jeff Nussbaum argued that the argument for someone “new” isn’t a “winning argument.” He cited Nikki Haley’s announcement video and Tim Scott’s messaging, which focuses on the need for something new.
However, Anderson countered that “new alone is not necessarily a winning argument” and that a candidate needs to put forward a vision that provides provision for the people.
Even spiritual adviser and bestselling self-help author Marianne Williamson has announced her intention to run in the Democratic primary.
As Republicans, we should be paying close attention to the growing rift in the Democratic Party. While we may have our differences, we can all agree that a robust debate is healthy for democracy. As David Urban said, “on the Republican side, the more the merrier, and on the democratic side, the more the merrier.”
We believe that President Biden’s policies have been disastrous for America. From open borders to job-killing regulations, he has shown that he is out of touch with the needs of everyday Americans. But even if we disagree with his policies, we should all support the idea of a fair and democratic election.
The fact that Democrats are calling for a primary challenge shows that they are not confident in their candidate’s ability to win. This is an opportunity for us to unite behind a strong Republican candidate who can offer a better vision for America’s future.
